We are committed to providing a free and appropriate public education for all students with disabilities. As the Student Services Department, our mission is to ensure that all students with disabilities receive quality instruction that is personalized to meet their individual needs while maintaining high standards of achievement.
Specialized Transportation per an IEP
The Planning and Placement Team (PPT) will determine if the regular transportation provided to all students is appropriate and safe or if specialized transportation must be provided for students with an IEP. If specialized transportation is required, it will be specified in the student’s IEP.

Early Childhood and Preschool
Ledyard’s Early Childhood and Preschool programs are designed to provide quality preschool programming as well as special education services to 3, 4 and 5 year old children (not eligible for kindergarten) in Ledyard. Special education and related services are provided to preschool children identified by a Planning and Placement Team (PPT) as having a disability in accordance with their IEP. Preschool programs include the Integrated Preschool Classroom & STARS - School Readiness Program.
All preschool age children who are suspected of having a disability are screened and, if necessary, evaluated to determine eligibility for special education and related services. For information on screenings please CLICK HERE

Homeschooling Information
According to Connecticut state guidance regarding homeschooling; it is required that parents and/or legal guardians who wish to homeschool their child/ren, submit their intent in writing to the Superintendent of Schools. In accordance with federal regulations, Ledyard Public Schools assumes the responsibility for the location, identification & evaluation of all children with a disability residing in Ledyard, whether or not they attend a public school.

Transition Services
Transition services are a coordinated set of activities for a student with a disability that are designed to improve the academic and functional achievement of the student and to facilitate the student’s movement from high school to postsecondary education, vocational education, employment (including supported employment), adult services, independent living, or community participation. Transition services in Ledyard are provided, as appropriate, in accordance with the student’s IEP.
