March/April Update
Easter eggs scattered the LCS fairgrounds. Children anxiously waited to run and fill their baskets to the brim with pastel eggs. Senior Ashley Marquardt played the role of Easter Bunny, taking pictures with the children. NHS members arrived early, and cleverly hid the eggs.
Participating in the Easter Egg Hunt at LCS is only one of the many volunteer opportunities NHS members flocked to these past few weeks. On St. Patrick’s Day, four members waitressed at the Rotary Club’s Wes Johnson Scholarship Dinner. In return for our service, the Rotary Club awarded NHS $200.
All throughout March, a penny drive was held for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The total amount is still being counted, but judging by the plastic bags brimming with change, it appears to be another successful year.
Also at the end of March, for three days members took the morning off from their classes to read to elementary school students at LCS, Gallup Hill, and JWL. In partners, members read to all ages and even provided the kids with some goldfish to snack on. From Green Eggs and Ham to If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, all of the favorites were read.
Earth Day weekend, members traded books for gardening tools, and helped clean up Blonders Park. Members brought their family and friends to do their part and “go green.”
The next and final coffeehouse will be May 10. As it gets closer to that date, if you or someone you know is interested in playing, make sure to sign up ahead of time in room 211.
