K12now - Receive School Notifications Immediately

Dear Parents,

Our school district has recently signed up to use a new service called K12now. K12now allows us to communicate with you via email and cellular/pager text messaging for emergency closings and/or general announcements.

K12now is free of charge to use and signing up is fast and secure. You can enter up to four email addresses and two cellular phone or pager text messaging phone numbers. K12now allows you to choose which addresses receive emergency or priority notifications and which receive general notifications. Your personal information is never shared or sold.

K12now will complement our present procedures. We encourage all parents to sign up for this service. To sign up free of charge, go to http://my.k12now.com. If prompted, enter this code:
QCV-RMY-K.

Further Explanation:

When you log on to sign up, the first email address you enter should probably be your home email address. This will be your primary address and this address will receive all notifications. You will then be asked for emergency email and cell phone numbers. The emergency email should probably be your work email address (if allowed by your company). Most cell phones can receive text messages, even if you didn't sign up for a text service plan. There will be a charge from your cell phone provider if you don't have a text message plan. Emergency cell phone text messages will be short and precise. You can check your email for more details.

Emergency messages and priority notifications will only be sent if school is unexpectedly dismissed early. (e.g. inclement weather, power failure, etc.) The cancellation of school before students arrive for the day (e.g. snow storm) is not considered an emergency and will be sent as a general announcement. School cancellation for the whole day will continue to be announced via TV and radio.

If there are cancellations of evening events, it will be sent to your primary email address. Remember, if school is dismissed early all afternoon and evening events that use school buildings are cancelled.

The Parks and Recreation Department will also be using this service for notifications and cancellations, but to primary email addresses only.

If you are not receiving the emails, check your spam or junk mail folders. You might need to mark these mails as acceptable.

Please contact Bill Merrill at bmerrill@ledyard.net with any questions or concerns.
