Simple Steps of Applying to College With Naviance
.) Create a list of colleges you are considering and place them in Naviance under “Colleges I’m thinking about”.
.) Finalize a list of approximately 3 to 5 schools and place in “Colleges I’m applying to” in Naviance. These should be the schools to which you are definitely applying.
.) Request transcripts through Naviance for schools you selected as “Colleges I’m applying to”. Only request a transcript when you are SURE you are applying. (See your counselor for details regarding transcript requests for NCAA.)
.) Respond to the question “Applying via Common App?” on the “Colleges I’m Applying to” list. You must choose yes or no.
.) Request letters of recommendation in person and through Naviance. Specify which school you need the letter for if you have multiple colleges listed in Naviance. (If applying to a common app school – you need to let the teacher know so they can fill out the common app evaluation form and the letter.)
.) Work on your applications and essays either on the individual college website or the common app website.
.) Log into College Board or ACT website to have your official SAT/ACT scores sent.
.) Tell the teacher that is writing your letter of recommendation and your counselor when you have started your common application online.
.) When your applications are complete (essays, payment, etc) and submitted, check off “I have submitted my application” in Naviance.
.) **Schedule an appointment with your School Counselor to officially send the school information. YOUR APPLICATION IS NOT DONE UNTIL THIS STEP IS COMPLETED. Remember to bring envelopes and stamps for any application that needs to be sent by mail.
.) Write Thank You Notes to each person that wrote you a letter of recommendation.
** NOTE: Step 10 must be completed 10 days prior to the application deadline.
