AP and the Cost of College
March 2010
To: Parents/Guardians of Advanced Placement Students
This information, along with a registration form, has already been provided to your student and their teacher in their AP class(es). Students who are in AP classes are strongly encouraged to take the AP exam because it can provide them with advanced standing or credit at the college they ultimately attend. Where else can you get 3 college credits for $86.00? A LHS alumnus who attends UCONN received an entire semester of college credit based on his AP scores. If your student is in an AP course and they are on the fence about taking the exam, we would like you to encourage them to take the exam. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Mrs. Toppa at 464-9600 x111 or Ms. Hatmaker at 464-9600 x107. You can also reach us by email at ctoppa@ledyard.net or jhatmaker@ledyard.net.
Thank you!

INFORMATION
Listed below are the day, date, and time for the most popular AP exams at Ledyard High School. Other exams may be administered upon request. We have previously met with all AP students and given them a copy of the 2010-2010 AP Bulletin, which we hope they have shared with you. In-depth course descriptions are available at the on-line AP Library at www.collegeboard.com/ap/students/
Testing locations, permitted materials, and other details will be announced in April.
The cost per exam is $86. If your family meets certain income guidelines, you may be eligible for a fee reduction. See your AP teacher, Mrs. Toppa, or Ms. Hatmaker for more details. If you sign up for an exam and do not take it, you will receive a refund (minus $13 processing fee). Make sure you want to take the exam before you submit your payment. Please fill out and return the appropriate registration form(s) along with your check(s). A separate registration form and check are required for each exam. Checks should be made payable to ‘Ledyard High School’ with the name of the test written in to the memo line. Both the registration form and check must be turned in to either Mrs. Toppa or Ms. Hatmaker in guidance by the end of school (2:30 PM) on Friday March 26, 2010. NO registration will be accepted after this time. This year, we will be conducting a preadministration session where students will be able to complete demographic information on their testing materials prior to the test day. Our hope is to streamline testing for students and allow them to “get right to business” on their designated test day(s). Preadministration will take place in April. Students will be given notification as to their session.
