There are three (3) types of ineligibility:

  1. CIAC Ineligible – A student who is CIAC ineligible is ineligible immediately upon publication of the CIAC Eligibility list. A student who is CIAC ineligible can not participate in any school sponsored athletic practices or events. Marking period grades (not semester grades) will be used to determine scholastic eligibility to participate in interscholastic athletics during any given marking period. To be eligible for fall sports (grades 10-12), a student must have earned four (4) credits toward graduation the previous year. Year-end failures may be made up through successful completion of school approved summer work in courses failed.

  2. Ledyard Ineligible – A student who is Ledyard Ineligible will become ineligible three (3) school days after report cards are mailed (not received). A student can not participate in any extracurricular activities including but not limited to, athletic practices (except for try-outs), music/drama rehearsals/performances, etc. An appeal process is available in cases of new enrollees and extra-ordinary circumstances. An appeal form must be filled out, signed and returned to APO by the date indicated in the Loss of Eligibility letter sent with the report card. A student will remain Ledyard Ineligible until the next report card is issued or a favorable outcome of an appeal hearing is issued.

  3. Ledyard Study Hall – Students will remain eligible as long as they attend two required after school study halls per week until the next report card is issued.

  • Pass/fail grades do not affect a student’s Q.P.A.; do count towards credits needed to be eligible.

  • Eligibility for fall activities shall be determined by the student’s grades for the fourth quarter of the previous year. Ninth graders are exempt until the end of 1st Quarter of their freshman year.

  • If the student does not participate in the required study period,he or she is prohibited from participating in the activity during the following week, defined Sunday through midnight Saturday.

  • A 4.5 Q.P.A. is equal to a C- average.
