• Student Poet Laureate •

The Student Poet Laureate, or "Honored Poet," is chosen as a junior after submitting five poems to a selection panel. Submissions will be judged for demonstrated potential by a team of teachers and the previous Poet Laureate. The student selected will meet with the Poet Laureate advisor twice a month during the second semester for the purpose of further developing the poet's skills and style. In the fall of his or her senior year, the poet will begin preparation for publication of a minimum of seven poems: one in each edition of our school's Colonel magazine, one in Horizons (our yearbook), and one in the Senior Class Graduation Program. Other possible publications/responsibilities include: sending poems to local publications, creative writing exchanges and workshops, classroom visitations, and other opportunities which present themselves.
