Title III of the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986 requires each community to develop a hazardous materials emergency response plan.  In support of this plan, the Act further establishes a "right to know" regarding hazardous materials used and stored in the community.  In this way, a community can understand the hazards associated with chemicals in the community and appropriately plan for emergencies.

Ledyard Local Emergency Planning Committee

The Town of Ledyard established a Public safety Commission in 2010.  To comply with federal regulations that groups is augmented to also serve as the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) to coordinate the Town's emergency response systems and resources to develop an emergency response plan for hazardous materials Incidents.  The Ledyard LEPC is composed of representatives from State and Ledyard Government, the Town's emergency services and business representatives.

The Public safety Commission meets monthly, typically on the 3rd Tuesday at 4PM in the Mayor's office.  The schedule can be found on the Town of Ledyard website.

Citizens are welcome to attend the meetings and encouraged to get involved in the process.
