LEDYARD PUBLIC SCHOOLS SHELTER-IN-PLACE POLICY FOR HAZARDOUS MATERIALS RELEASE
In the event of a release of hazardous materials (from a facility like Dow Chemical, a transport truck, or a terrorist act) the school district will activate its shelter-in-place procedures. Shelter-in-place provides temporary shelter for students and staff from a hazardous materials release. Shelter-in-place will remain in effect until the Director of Emergency Management determines that conditions are safe for students and staff to leave the buildings. During this period all schools will be locked. Students and staff will not be allowed to leave and individuals other than emergency personnel will not be allowed to enter. Shelter-in-place rules
will apply to you at home as well as our schools and you should remain in a safe place
until the emergency has passed. |
