Important Update from Ledyard Public Schools
October, 2020
Dear Parents and Guardians,
At a Special Meeting on September 28, 2020, the Board of Education evaluated and approved the continuation of the hybrid model of learning, outlined in the district’s 2020 Return to School Plan. Over 200 people joined the virtual meeting and many shared comments and observations regarding the current plan.
The hybrid model was reviewed at the October 21st Board of Education Meeting and will continue to be reviewed on an ongoing basis. Decisions regarding the continuation of the hybrid model will be based on information received by the State, Ledge Light Health District and the community, as well as on updates provided by teachers and administrators.
As outlined in the chart below, the hybrid model has 50% of students reporting at a time. Ledyard and other districts in the State have adopted a common schedule rotation. This plan has students separated into two (2) cohorts based on their last names. Each cohort will have two (2) in-person days and three (3) full virtual days. Per Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) guidance, even with the hybrid model, families may still opt out of in- person learning. The plan is closely aligned with Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) and CDC guidance and includes three program models that can be used by the district based on changing public health conditions.
As your Superintendent, the safety of our students, team members and our community remain my top priority. I am incredibly proud of our collective response to this pandemic and the continued efforts being made by all to keep everyone safe.
Sincerely,
Jason S. Hartling
Superintendent of Schools
